Fabric Upholstery
Do
- Gently vacuum your sofa or use a soft brush once a week to remove any dust and keep your sofa looking good and feeling fresh. For Velvet vacuum your sofa in the direction of the pile, to remove any dust and prevent the displacement of the pile over time It is recommended to use a soft brush head attachment or a special upholstery attachment to avoid any damage to the fabric.
- Regularly turn and flip your seat cushions to maximise the life of the fabric. Fibre and feather seat cushions should be shaken and plumped daily to keep them looking their best.
- Check legs are tightly screwed in on a regular basis to prevent any unnecessary weakness developing.
Don't.
- Expose your furniture to prolonged direct sunlight and direct heat from radiators or fires, as even the strongest colours may fade under such conditions.

Do
- Deal with spillages and stains as quickly as you can. This will prevent the liquid from soaking into the fibres and minimize stain damage. Soak up the excess liquid straightaway by dabbing with a clean, white absorbent cloth. Work inward from the edges to stop the stain spreading.
- Use a professional dry-cleaning service for stains. Ensure the service you use is reputable and that they have good knowledge of velvet upholstery so you get your sofa back to looking its best.
Don't.
- Do not use water, rub or put too much pressure on the area as this can cause more damage.
Clever Velvet
Do
- Deal with any spillages quickly removing any excess residue on the upholstery
- Apply water over the stain, either directly or using a damp cloth. Wait a few seconds.
- Press down over the stain with a damp cloth and rub gently over the fabric in circular movements. If the stain does not come off completely, repeat the process as required.
Leather
Do
- Dust your leather furniture regularly with a soft lint-free cloth or brush to stop the accumulation of grit and dirt that can have an abrasive effect and cause premature wear.
- Love your wrinkles ! Creases and wrinkles will naturally occur over time with leather. But don’t panic! This is a completely normal characteristic and gives your sofa a soft and inviting look.
- Deal with stains quickly to minimise stain damage. Soak up the excess liquid immediately by gently dabbing with a white, dry, clean and highly absorbent cloth. Work inwards from the edges to avoid the stain spreading.
- Consult a specialist leather upholstery cleaner for advice. Professional cleaning is always recommended.
- Clean and condition the leather at least once a year to stop it getting too dry. Use a sperate cleaning and conditioning product from a reputable supplier.
Don't.
- Avoid using a vacuum cleaner on leather, but if you do need to use one to get into tighter areas, make sure you use a soft brush attachment.
- Do not rub or use abrasive cleaners, detergents or solvents as this will damage your furniture.
- Do not place hot items such as hot drinks, hot water bottles or laptops on leather as they may result in dark marks.
Wood
Do
- Always wipe up any spillages immediately and then wipe with a damp cloth before buffing with a dry cloth.
- Remove more stubborn marks with a solution of mild detergent.
Don't.
- Don’t place your furniture next to radiators or anywhere subject to excessive changes in temperature or moisture content.
- Avoid using silicone based polishes which can build up and leave a sticky residue behind.
- Never place hot items or wet items directly onto a wooden surface without using a heat resistant mat or trivet.
Metal
Do
- To keep it metal items clean a quick dust with a soft cotton towel or cloth will avoid scratching or damaging the finish
- Smudges and smears can be removed using a window cleaner and a soft paper towel.
Don't.
- Avoid using harsh abrasive chemical cleaners or polishes on your new item.
- Don not place hot items on metal surfaces – always use heat resistant mats or trivets.
- Try not to spill wine or oily or acidic foodstuffs as these could cause tarnishing.
